Michael SchmidtKukusanya Wanawake ( Gather the Women)
We gather as women, Black, Red, Yellow, Brown and White to affirm our commitment to a just, free and equal society.
We gather as women to join our emotional, spiritual, and material resources affirm our kinship and renew our sisterhood.
We gather as women to protect our communities and our families, particularly to build a better world for our children.
We gather as women to carry on the great work started by those women who came before us. We honor their courage, commitment and dedication to making our union more perfect.
We gather as women in solidarity with those of us the world over who suffer at the hands of authoritarian and abusive leaders who batter and abuse our bodies, destroy our sexuality and would deny our right to self-determination and independence.
We gather as women because we now see what happens when mostly men are in control.
We gather as women because we are lovers of humanity in all its shapes and forms.
We gather as women because we are warriors as well. And we resist the forces that would divide us by skin color, where we come from, who we choose to love or where we live.
We gather as women to honor and protect our precious Mother Earth. And in the tradition of the First Nation People we honor The Great Mother who nourishes and sustains us all.
We gather as women because we believe the arc of the moral universe is long and it bends toward peace, justice and love. We call on the spirit of the Great Mother to guide, provide for, and protect us.
We continue our conversation with women, for women, and by women. I suggest the following issues for our consideration.
What must be acknowledged, resolved, and understood among us to create bonds of trust, deep respect and care for each other?
Can we join our considerable resources as women to bring about needed social change?
What must be done now to address the systemic forces that affect our lives as women and the lives of those we care about?
Our stories, questions, concerns, and observations are appreciated in this space.
See you at our next EBAOO community meeting on March 19, 6:30-8:00pm
