There is a Chinese symbol that depicts both crisis and opportunity. We are living in momentous times. There are practices, policies and laws that have been in place for most of our lives and that we’ve come to take for granted. Bedrock legislation is now questioned under a conservative plan called Project 2025. Brown Vs. Board of Education, immigration, voting rights, and even the use of contraceptives are just a few of the issues targeted to be eliminated by the Heritage Foundation and the MAGA campaign.
There is despair and fear among many Americans about the upcoming presidential election and what a Project 2025 conservative agenda would unleash. What would be our future as a democracy under this conservative MAGA plan? Indeed, would a functioning democracy even exist? And many of us feel hopeless and unable to fashion a response under what appears to be a huge tide of conservatism, and MAGA ideology.
How can we find opportunity in the issues before us rather than believing we cannot win? If we are indeed facing an existential challenge…events that could upend our democracy, what must be done? And are we up to the challenge? Whatever happens going forward we will have helped to bring it into being. It is not enough to rage against the other guy… to wring our hands and hold our heads in despair. We have assets, strengths, talents, and material resources. And I believe we are on the right side of history. What must we do to create the society we believe in? Our next Hear and Now conversation will discuss Project 2025. Is it a crisis or an opportunity? And either way what must be done? The Project 2025 proposal is available for review here. Check it out. Let’s talk about it. And perhaps develop our own plan?
